It boasts lush, heavily lobed dark green foliage and a rapid growth rate. Candle larkspur is ideally suited for container gardens but truly shines when grouped or massed in mixed beds and borders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor optimal growth, plant larkspur in a sunny to partially shady spot with moist, fertile, well-drained loamy soils with a slight acidity, around a pH of 5.4 to 5.5. A pH higher than 6.0 may result in fewer blooms. While Neva has been bred for heat tolerance and strong stems, it may benefit from some afternoon shade, particularly in warmer climates, and protection from strong winds. As a heavy feeder, delphinium requires higher phosphate rates than most perennials and should be fed weekly during growth and flowering with a slow-release fertilizer. Spent flower spikes should be deadheaded back to the basal foliage to encourage reblooming.
